HS Friend SearchA search bar for Hearthstone's friends list

Open the friends list, type part of a name, and only the matching friends stay. Friend Search adds a search bar to Hearthstone's friends list: it finds a name from any part of it, forgives typos, looks through friend requests and recent players too, and counts the matches. It runs inside the game client, with no Hearthstone Deck Tracker needed, on Windows and on Linux through Wine. Free and open source.

The bar sits under your name, ready to type
Rey: two matches, counted on the bar
UA: 25 matches

What it does

Ready when the list opens

The bar sits under your own name, styled like the list's own headers, and takes typing as soon as the friends list opens.

Any part of a name

ussua finds DivussUA. Names that start with what you typed come first.

Typos forgiven

From 4 letters on, one wrong letter per 3 typed still matches. Typo matches always come after the exact ones.

Friends, requests, recent players

All three are searched, and BattleTag numbers too: #2692.

Match count

The right end of the bar shows how many friends match.

Esc to clear

Esc clears the search; with the bar empty, Esc works as usual. Closing the list clears it as well.

Install

Windows

  1. Download HSFriendSearch-Setup-<version>.exe with the button above or from Releases.
  2. Close Hearthstone and run the setup. It finds your Hearthstone folder; check it and click Install.
  3. Start Hearthstone from Battle.net as usual.

To remove it: Windows Settings → Apps → HS Friend Search → Uninstall, or the Start menu entry. BepInEx goes with it, unless another mod still uses it or it was there before.

Linux (Hearthstone through Wine: Lutris, Bottles, Steam/Proton)

  1. Download HSFriendSearch-<version>-linux.tar.gz with the button above or from Releases, and unpack it.
  2. Close Battle.net, then run bash install.sh in the unpacked folder. It finds Hearthstone in the usual Wine prefixes (or pass the path: bash install.sh "/path/to/Hearthstone") and sets the Wine DLL override BepInEx needs.
  3. Start Hearthstone from Battle.net as usual.

To remove it: bash uninstall.sh.

FAQ

Does it need Hearthstone Deck Tracker?

No. It is a mod for the Hearthstone client itself, loaded by BepInEx, and runs whether or not HDT is installed. The setup brings BepInEx if your Hearthstone does not have it yet, and leaves an existing one as it is.

Is it allowed?

It is an unofficial client-side mod that Blizzard does not support. BepInEx, the loader it runs through, is a gray zone of Hearthstone's Terms of Use: Blizzard has never taken restrictive action against such tools.

Does it send my data anywhere?

No. As of the date at the top of this page, the mod has no network code at all: it filters the friends list the game already shows you.

The search bar is gone after a Hearthstone patch

A patch can stop the mod until a new release is out. To check whether it loaded, look for HS Friend Search loaded in BepInEx\LogOutput.log in your Hearthstone folder.
