About This Policy

HS BG Cards (BG Card Database, hsbg.cards) is a community-driven fan project. This policy describes what information we collect when you visit the site or use our companion app (the Telegram bot), how we use it, and the choices you have. We do not sell data and we do not track you across other websites. As of the date at the top of this page, we also do not run any advertising — this may change in the future, and if it ever does, this policy will be updated in advance to describe what any ad partners collect and how.

Information We Collect

We use a privacy-friendly, self-hosted analytics tool called Umami to understand how the site is used. Umami does not use cookies, does not store any personally identifiable information, and does not track you across other sites. The data it collects is aggregated and anonymous.

Specifically, Umami records:

  • Anonymous page views (which pages are visited and when).
  • Referrer information (the previous page or source that brought you here, including UTM campaign tags when present).
  • Approximate country and device category (phone, tablet, or desktop), derived at the edge and not stored alongside any identifier.
  • Anonymous interaction events — for example, opening a card, clicking through patch notes, or completing the interactive tour. These are used to understand which features people actually use.

Battlegrounds Sounds (the daily voiceline puzzle): your puzzle results, streak and in-progress guesses are stored only in your browser's local storage and are never sent to us — clearing site data resets them. To understand how hard each puzzle is, the site keeps anonymous per-puzzle totals on its own server: how many players started it, guessed, solved it on which sound or missed, and how many puzzles a player had finished before. No identifier is stored with these totals; a short-lived hash of your connection is held in memory for a few hours only so a start is not counted twice, and is never written anywhere.

If you contact us via the links at the bottom of this page (Telegram, WhatsApp, Discord or email), the respective platform will handle that conversation under its own privacy policy. We only see the messages you choose to send us.

What We Do Not Collect

  • No accounts, no logins, no passwords — this site does not have a user system.
  • No names, emails, or other personal data (unless you voluntarily send them to us).
  • No cookies.
  • No behavioural tracking for marketing purposes. No advertising is currently served on the site (see the intro above regarding future changes).

How Card Descriptions Are Generated

Card descriptions, meta tags, and similar text that appear across this site are generated programmatically from card data extracted from the game client — they are not authored by a large language model. Where we do use templated text, it is built from structured fields (type, tier, stats, keywords, mechanics) so that what you read on a card page reflects the card itself.

Machine-Written Content

What?

Translations of this website into the game's languages — its pages, its text and some of its interface — are machine-written, using translation tools or AI.

Why?

Unfortunately, the person behind this website does not speak every language the game is available in, and understands quite a few of them only partially — I know, shame on me. Some of the languages were checked by native speakers before publishing, so they should have fewer inconsistencies. Thanks to all the friends who helped, especially Reign-In-Blood for the French checks and Ankastra, head moderator of the Hearthstone Discord, for the German checks, and to everyone else who pitched in!

If you notice inconsistencies or awkward wording in your native language, please report them through the contacts below. We will gladly adopt better wording after checking and testing it — we try to provide the best content we can.

Third-Party Services

The site loads a few resources from third-party providers:

  • Google Fonts — serves the Inter and Roboto Serif typefaces. Google may log font requests per its own privacy policy.
  • Telegram / WhatsApp / Discord — only if you tap the contact buttons below.
  • Google (Gmail) — contact@hsbg.cards is a Gmail-hosted mailbox, so email you send there is processed by Google under its own privacy policy.
  • Blizzard Entertainment — card artwork and game data belong to Blizzard. The site is part of the Hearthstone Creator Program, but is not affiliated with or endorsed by Blizzard — see About.

Your Rights & Choices

Because we do not tie any data to your identity, there is nothing personal to request, export, or delete — the analytics data we hold is aggregated and anonymous.

If you'd still prefer not to contribute to our anonymous analytics, any standard ad blocker or privacy extension (uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, Brave shields, etc.) will block the Umami script, and the site will continue to work normally without it. The Battlegrounds Sounds per-puzzle totals described above are part of playing the game itself and cannot be blocked separately — they contain nothing that identifies you.

For what it's worth: the person running this site is an ad-blocker user themselves and browses this very site with an ad blocker enabled. We build for people who value their privacy because we're one of them.

Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. If a future change to what we collect or how we use it comes with a way to opt out, we will post a notice on the site in advance, together with that option, so you can decide before the change takes effect. Today there is no such option to offer, because nothing we collect is tied to you; changes of that kind are simply reflected here. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision.
